Tamborine Mountain Distillery has won Gold for its Choc Mint Liqueur at the prestigious European Wine and Spirits Competition held early this year (2008) in Neustadt, Germany.

The ISW – (International Spirituosen Wettbewerb) is the largest wine and spirits competition in Germany and has won world wide recognition. Assessment was carried out on a sensory basis by an international jury of professional experts from major producing and consuming countries.

Michael says he is thrilled to have won this award, especially as Tamborine Mountain Distillery was the only ‘non-European’ entrant in the liqueur category to win an award. Spirits have been distilled and drunk for centuries now and the international diversity of spirits is tremendous ranging from clear schnapps through to fruit brandies and liqueurs.

In many countries these spirits are an integral part of an accomplished lifestyle and are widely available on the market. In Australia there are less than 20 legal operating pot still distilleries and Tamborine Mountain Distillery is proudly one of them. As competitions in Australia are pivotal on wine based products we have had to go overseas to compete in competitions which embrace our field of expertise. It was extremely gratifying for one of the smallest operating pot still distilleries in the world to be validated with gold in Europe.
