Yuzu (Citrus junos) is an ancient citrus fruit native to East Asia, especially Japan, Korea, and China. Unlike the sweet and familiar oranges or lemons, yuzu has a complex flavour that combines the best notes of grapefruit, mandarin, and lime, with a delicate floral and herbal undertone. This rare fruit is prized for its aromatic oils and intense fragrance, making it a staple in Japanese cuisine and even used in teas, dressings, and hot baths to promote relaxation.

The Story Behind the Spirit
Our passion for yuzu began more than a decade ago when our Head Distiller, Gordon Chalmers, worked in Japan. Captivated by the fruit’s extraordinary flavour and aroma, he went on to create our beloved Yuzucello three years ago. The overwhelming response from our customers encouraged us to further explore this remarkable fruit, leading to the development of both Yuzu Gin and Yuzu Vodka.

Our Commitment to Sustainability: Growing Our Own Yuzu Orchard
At Tamborine Mountain Distillery, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. To ensure a reliable, sustainable supply of yuzu for our distilling process, we’ve taken the exciting step of planting 58 citrus trees, including 25 yuzu trees, on our property. This initiative not only supports our production but also strengthens our connection to the land, ensuring that future batches of our Yuzu spirits are crafted with the freshest, locally sourced ingredients.
